COVID-19 Update: March 26, 2021

Update March 26, 2021

Now that Sonoma County has advanced out of the most restrictive purple tier to the red tier, and places of worship are allowed to operate indoors with modifications and 25% capacity, our re-entry team has been hard at work creating plans to do so safely. As Dr. Edward described during our recent membership meeting, we will be starting out gradually as we put systems in place to begin welcoming limited numbers of congregants to the Center for Sunday services while continuing to offer an online virtual experience.  Please stay tuned for more information.

Why Is There a “Space Available” Sign at the Center?

Some of you have been wondering why we have a space for lease sign in front of the Center. In March of 2020 our Center was emptied of people. As the months wore on it became apparent to us that we might be able to rent some of our unused space and generate some income for the Center during a period of drastically reduced income. We engaged a commercial realtor and have entered into a one year lease of Room 11 in the north wing of the building. We have been offering to lend or rent other parts of the building to address the pandemic. We reached out to such entities as we could locate, including Sonoma County. Our parking lot has been used during this period for COVID testing and will soon be used to administer vaccinations. Ideally, we have been looking for entities that need additional space during this difficult time but would not be needed once the pandemic recedes. We are not renting any areas that would interfere with our return to in-person services.

If you know of anyone who may be interested in leasing space at the Center, please have them contact

When we have more information, we will post updated information about our building here on our website.

At the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, your elected leaders, staff, and ministers transitioned our community into a purely online experience to comply with the County of Sonoma Health Officer’s orders. Click here to see the latest information on their website.

A re-entry team was formed at the direction of the board of trustees to create a re-entry plan which ensures everyone’s safety and complies with local and state guidelines. Members of the team are former board President David Powers, Treasurer Bob Hart, Trustee Julie Burns, Facility Manager Evan Dow-Williamson, and Chief Operating Officer Linda Hann. In late March, volunteer Iris Maitland joined the team. If you have questions, please contact Linda Hann at linda.hann@cslsr.org.

The Center is currently open to a limited number of staff and volunteers. If you need access to the building, please contact Facility Manager Evan Dow-Williamson at evan.dw@cslsr.org.

We Are Not a Building

The Center for Spiritual Living, Santa Rosa is not housed in the building located at 2075 Occidental Road and never has been. It lives in the hearts of the community wherever they are located. And it always will be whenever we gather and whatever the method we use to gather. You are the Center for Spiritual Living, and it will live in you for as long as you freely identify yourself as a practicing metaphysician. Until we can all meet in our building in a safe manner, here are some things to consider.

Our Values of Love and Compassion Guide Us

We are made by the Divine, not with a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-discipline. Our teaching urges us to be still and to consult with that spirit of power, love, and self-discipline. Our values of love and compassion guide us to apply our creative minds to the good of all and to envision the best possible outcome for all.

We Will Reopen When It Is Safe for Everyone

Our analysis of our facility and volunteers indicates that we do not have the capacity to provide both online and in person services now. We want to be confident that when we reopen the building, we can do so safely in a way that considers all of our congregants, including our most vulnerable. Until then, the Center for Spiritual Living will continue to be as it always has been—dynamic, healthy, and inspiring—online and in your heart.

What Is Our Focus?

Our focus will continue to be what it always has been: to provide spiritual tools for personal and global transformation through the teaching and practice of Science of Mind. We will be creatively expanding our focus to include building community online; to staying connected online; to learning and studying online; to discuss, grieve, share, and celebrate online. And if we grow weary of online activity, we will sit in contemplation to regenerate by dipping into that deep well of the Divine until we are ready to commune again. It is our way. We will not to be hypnotized by chaotic conditions.

We Have Confidence in the Future

Your trustees, stewards, staff, and leadership are creating long term plans for our community. We have confidence in the future based on one single fact: you.

I am immensely grateful for our virtual services, classes, and activities along with the dozens of individuals and teams who are doing amazing work keeping us connected and on our spiritual path with love and support.

We will continue to post and update information on our website about how we can remain in contact, study, pray, love, and serve together.

My blessings to you,

Edward Viljoen
