Job Description

This position is approved for up to 24 hours per week.

The part-time facility manager is responsible for the general maintenance of the building and grounds, ensuring that all required building inspections are met, and repairs are made as needed. The position also includes ensuring that the facility is set up, clean, and safe for all in-person services, classes, and events.

The facility manager will be interacting with a variety of people throughout any given day and must be able to communicate and work well with congregants, volunteers, staff, practitioners, trustees, room renters, outside contractors and service technicians, the unsheltered, and our neighboring businesses and residents.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Make sure the facility is clean, safe, and ready for use at all times.
  • Contract with and manage external janitorial services as necessary.
  • Be aware of all current and upcoming uses of the facility.
  • Meet weekly with COO Linda Hann to discuss logistical planning.
  • Check in and work with staff to make sure their needs are met. 
  • Order janitorial and hospitality supplies in time for their needed use.
  • Coordinate and work weekly with volunteers to keep them engaged.        
  • Have general awareness of what needs to be done and taking appropriate action.
  • Gather bids, hire, and supervise outside contractors when needed.
  • Meet with and give building access to service technicians and renters. 
  • Maintain required building inspections.
  • Assist with special event set-ups and take-downs.
  • Make sure rooms are set up properly for classes, meetings, and events. 
  • Monitor the overall security of the building on a daily basis.
  • Be financially conscientious with monthly spending and seek to realize cost savings wherever possible.
  • Be available 24/7 for emergency calls from Bay Alarm and SRPD.
  • Keep the facility in compliance with OSHA standards.
  • Collect and file receipts, certificates, contracts, and other facility documents.
  • Write a monthly facility report for the board of trustees.
  • Be onsite, or designate a volunteer to be onsite, for events being held at the Center.

Recommended Skills

Due to the multi-faceted nature of this position in a place with many moving parts, a person who is capable of multitasking and sometimes being available on short notice is desired. Stacking and unstacking chairs and setting up folding tables is a regular part of the job.  Necessary skills are needed in areas of general organizing, a good sense of order and aesthetics, painting, basic construction, basic plumbing and electrical repair, use of power tools, using a scissor lift, irrigation repair, landscape and janitorial maintenance, and the ability to use a PC. Also necessary is the ability to lift up to 50 pounds alone, climb ladders safely, and be on your feet for most working hours.
